The coach pointed out that it was a balanced game that would have gone either way.
“ My team made some mistakes which you don’t do when you are playing a good team like Nigeria. It was a balanced game that could have gone either way. All the same, Nigeria deserve their victory,” Lekeens said.
The Belgian tactician who only took over the Desert Foxes two weeks ago said Algeria’s World Cup dream is not over yet, though they are walking a tight rope.
“My mandate is to qualify Algeria for the World Cup. After two games with one point, it looks difficult but I don’t think it’s over yet. I will do my best to win our remaining games, mathematically qualification is still possible.”

The coach said given Nigeria’s soccer pedigree and the quality of players Eagles parade, losing the Uyo battle was not a surprise.
“I knew it was going to be a difficult game. As I said we got punished for the mistakes we made in the first half. But in the second half we got back into the game. Eagles were luckier to have gotten the third goal.”
